What the Hale?!?!

Discuss Reverend Hale. What's he thinking??? What do you think of him?

  1. Reverend Hale is thinking that he may have made a huge mistake. He's starting to realize that he has accused and sentenced innocent people to death for witchcraft but is reluctant to admit anything so he doesn't ruin his reputation and authority. I think Hale is an okay guy but I believe he should do what's right and stop the accusations of witchcraft on innocent people and admit he was wrong, if he doesn't I think he is a selfish man that should himself be put on trial for fraud.

    1. I basically put the same thing as you about Reverend Hale. Although, I like your opinion on making him confess.

    2. I agree, I feel that Hale has gotten lost in the drama and is now just doing what the people are telling him to; not what he originally came to do.

    3. I agree, and I fell that Mr. Hale should be thrown in to jail for the things he did.

  2. Reverend Hale is supposed to be a very high official in the surrounding area in the time period. He is asked to come to Salem by Reverend Parris to look at his daughter but he ends up staying because of the accused witchcraft of many people by Abigail and the girls. Reverend Hale, in my opinion, thought he was doing the correct thing because these people were accused. He did not realize that just because they are accused doesn't mean that they are guilty. After speaking with John Proctor he now knows that he has evicted innocent people and not even given them a chance at it. I think that Reverned Hale is a good man that got caught up in all the nonsense in the witchcraft but doesn't want to tarnish his good name by admitting he's wrong.

    1. I agree dev, Hale is originally a good guy that got caught up in nonsense. I think he needs to speak up tho and tell people he is wrong to save innocent people!

    2. I agree that he thinks he's wrong but can't say it because it will ruin his name

    3. Hale for sure knows he made a mistake. But the next question is, will he try and fix his mistakes? My guess is probably not.

    4. Hale is doing wrong, we all know it. Now all he has left to do is fix those mistakes to keep up his good name.

    5. Devin I also agree, but I think he cares quite a bit about his reputation.

  4. Reverend Hale came into the book thinking that his job was to get to the bottom of one little mystery. After he realized that he got himself into a bigger situation than he bargained for, I feel that he isn't sure what to think. He is unsure of who is innocent and who is guilty, therefore he is just going with what the people are saying. I think that he got lost in all of the drama and is not fighting for what he originally came to do.

    2. I agree with you Courtney. I feel he isn't sure how is supposed to respond to the whole situation. He has changed is view numerous times and seems to just go along with the crowd.

  5. Hale is feeling guilty because he sent innocent people to their deaths. He's not sure if what he's doing is gods work anymore. I think he is a good person trying to do his best but he messed up and he knows it. He knows he messed up but he can't admit to it or else his reputation will be ruined and he can't risk that!

    3. I agree. But if he is a follower of God he needs to remember to do the right thing, regardless of his reputation, to save the lives of innocent people

    4. I agree that he is really regreting his decision and feels that God would not appreciate what he has done.

    5. I also think that Reverend Hale messed up and now he doesn't know what to do. I think he should stand and voice his opinion and stick with it.

  6. Reverend Hale first comes to the Proctor household discussing the issues on witchcraft. He questions John and Elizabeth's faith saying that the youngest son is not yet baptized and that they never attend services. John then tells Hale how people are confessing to witchcraft but aren't actually doing it. Hale is confused until John tells him they don't want to die. Then Hale's views about the accusations change when he realizes they are killing innocent people because the accuser is always innocent and the person being accused is always guilty. I think Hale likes to go with the crowd and doesn't really know how is supposed to feel about all the accusations.

    1. I believe a revrand should not be questioning people's faith instead should be minding his own business. I feel that it was unfair for him to ask all those questions and in a way I believe it was kind of offensive!

    2. Rachel I agree with you on the last part and I think he needs to make up his mind because it is confusing.

  7. Reverend Hale is beginning to get a little nervous about what he has been doing. There has been several innocent people being accused for not doing anything wrong. This witchcraft has been a way for certain people to get revenge or get back at one another. I believe Rev. Hale is starting to realize all of this is wrong and should not be happening.

  8. I think that Reverend Hale has lost his mind. He didn't know why people were confessing if they didn't commit the crime. He then found out that if they don't confess they would be hanged. Now he thinks he is no longer doing God's work because he is sending innocent people to die. I don't really know what to think of Hale, in my opinion he is a boring character. I also thinks he needs to have an opinion and stick with it because he is confusing me.

  9. Reverend hale is thinking that he may have made a mistake. He knows it now. But he is pretty far deep into this mess and there may be no way out. And the suspicion for the Proctors is there for Hale. But I feel as if he wants to give them the benefit of the doubt, but with the slip ups and coincidences he found while questioning them, raises suspicion.

  11. Reverend Hale is so called a "high official" in this time period. Reverend Paris asks him to come to Salem to check up on his daughter. But he desides to stay because of all the people being accused of whichcraft. I think Reverend Hale is doing the right thing by staying because of the people being accused. But that doesn't mean they should be accused guily.

  12. Mister hale is a minister that's an expert on witchcraft. Mister hale made a mistake on accusing many insistent girls of being witches and when there not and many of them get killed I think he should be the one being accused of murder.

  13. Reverend Hale was asked to come by Reverend Parris because he is an expert on witchcraft. I think he cares quite a bit about his reputation so he gets caught up in some nonsense. I think Reverend Hale is a good guy and knows a lot, but I think he cares too much about his reputation.

  14. After John proctor was and he was arrested for a load crap like he was arrested for no reason he was arrested for the accuse of witchcraft
